Life can be as uncertain as a journey across the sea...

Some years ago, a sea captain said to his wife, "One more voyage and then we'll buy a nice home in the country and settle down in comfort for the rest of our lives."  But unfortunately, the man sailed on a ship that never returned.

Human pledges and promises gave a tendency to fail, even though they they might be made with good intentions. Life is so unpredictable and unforeseeable circumstances are constantly springing up here and there, making it difficult for us to make promises about the future.

But the Bible tells us that the promises of God will never fail.  2 Peter 3:9 declares: "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise as some men count slackness"  When I was in high school, my class had quite a reputation for wasted potential.  I remember my history teacher would always refer to us as "a bunch of slackers". And that was just his way of saying that we were a class full of lazy, undependable students.

Some high school students may be slackers, but not God!

We always need to remeber that God has everything under control and His promises are dependable!

Notice that Peter tells us that the Lord is no slacker when it comes to fulfilling His Word. And do you know why? Because He doesn't have to worry about future events getting in the way of His promises. Look at Isaiah 46 verse 9, "I am God, there is none else.  I am God and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand and I will do all my pleasure."

The future is in the Lord's hands, which makes it very easy for Him to keep His promises. There are people today that think that Jesus has forgotten the promise He made in John chapter 14 verses 1-3, but this is not the case! Jesus will return when the time is right. The Bible indicates that the second coming is approaching, and we can have confidence that our Savior has not forgotten about His people.
