: Stories from the past
: *<JO>*Narretas September 29, 2011, 08:30 AM
Master Ven talked about the old jumping room where he first met Master Mene, and that got me going. Over the years that we've been a clan, we've been through quite a lot. Most of the stuff was written down, and that eventually became JO history. But, that history is all about bad things that happened to us.

And now we're moving to a new game. Wouldn't it be fun to have some fun stories as well for the new members to learn? What about GCX, admin golf and Master Pann's saber skills?

Let's all post our stories here! They can be funny, weird rituals certain members had, or things we all did. Especially our older members should have a lot to tell. Re-living the past can be fun for the authors as well.

Remember when...?

Master Pann has always been a wise kitten, but one thing has been stuck in my head since he said it many years ago and that's "OUCH! My kitty balls!!". I remember I laughed so hard when he randomly said that.

Also, I remember when he had this weird saber glitch where it showed the had three lightsabers. one in each hand and then one right in his crotch... hahahahaha.

I remember when Alpha and Rink used to follow me around when "Aeris" was around. They would stalk us throughout the whole day.

I remember the good old tournaments we used to do, we would literally have at least thirty people in the server and we would all have lots of fun.

Some awesome memories you guys've mentioned!

I remember when Alpha and Rink used to follow me around when "Aeris" was around. They would stalk us throughout the whole day.

Such good times! We'd then spectate her and be like, "Lei? What are you doing in the garden!", and watch her run to the garden in search of you. You such a playa, Lei :)

I've had way too many good times with you all to remember them all, some of the ones I can remember now are;

- Nature's Beauty!
- When I was a PL, I disrespected Shin. I ended up having about 6-7 JK+ circling me angrily. Sure taught me a lesson. ;)
- An RP'd 'party' some of us PLs and Js threw in my room that was shared with Slim (the TV room in JedicouncilGC2). Slim insisted that everyone took their shoes off, and we all just sat and watched TV.... lol
- When Xzar and I were PLs, we heard about some Sith clan wanting to take down *<JO>*, and so we formed 'AX' and I formally requested to the Council that they bless us with leading a secret offence against them.
- Jedi Master mode with all of you guys on Kaeawc's Hyrule Town map. Best game mode & map combo of any of the Jedi Knight series.
- Watching my own padawans advance through the ranks (Zunin Toku, Hub Saito and Vargus Trasnoob to name a few), and training them.

There's just so many, that are just as awesome as these. If I sat here trying to list them, I'd be here for hours. Good times!
: Re: Stories from the past
: *<JO>*Veniku Dar Adias September 29, 2011, 02:40 PM
Lets see..

I remember the old tournaments we held often. The training of padawans... I especially miss my padawan beginner class. Where i would round up all the new padawans and teach them the code and Jedi Ethics. Preparing them for their training as a jedi and with their jedi trainer to be. Think i often held it in the meditation room in GC where we'd sit in mediation and study.

I remember doing a few trials... I enjoyed being apart of them watching a Jedi earn his honor and discipline.

I miss FFA in the training room.. lol ahh man was there some  fun in that room. Probablly the most used room in the GC temple. We once held ctf every week in the temple in the JK2 days..  and the old clan vs clan tournaments. We had some good clans associated with us... then we had our trouble makers.

I enjoyed the Dueling. Day in and Day out honing saber skills. I spent most of my time in the temple training.

all in all My greatest memories of the Order is with all its members past and Present. You all are truly what has made JO great for so many years.. Otherwise i wouldnt have been here this long or came back.. Been with this Clan since i was about 13 and i turn 23 next feb... 10 years or so have been awesome. Thank you all

Agreed, and will do the same. I have a couple stories from my comparatively short time here that don't completely paint me in a negative light. It's raining here where I live, the rain always makes me feel nostalgic. Remembering times with Master/Knight Zunin, Master Mene, Wook, Asheron, and a few others whose names I'll have to have Myste remind me of before I continue on.

RP back in JK2 on that one map with like two levels that was like a part of a city. Don't remember what it was called, but I LOVED that. It was fun to play Jedi vs Empire or bounty hunter or something like that there!

Whoville around Christmas was always great! :)

Meetings and getting to see everyone at the same time! FFA after someone got promoted or accepted was the best!

All of the enemies we had made life fun! haha

We need to find some alternatives to the FFA after promotion, and the color schemes Masters and Padawans had..

Awesome stories everyone!

Alternatives to Padawan-master bonds(relationship) will be hard to figure out but we will when the time comes.

Oh no, that was Commerce! That was great, I remember roleplaying as a sith emperor (with emp) and had a huge following of around 7 stormtroopers, who I was coordinating with in an attempt of extinguishing all of the Jedi around (I think Clin will remember that, if he ever sees this ;) )

Or was it Commenor? That's the map though! :)

I loved Bespin too!!! That was probably the first map I played JK2 multiplayer and the one I played the most (or tied with JediCouncilGC). That was a LONG time ago. haha

Yup! Those were awesome maps too. I actually remember in JK2 and Jedi CouncilGC I was a Padawan I was minding my own business, running around all over the place. Suddenly, when I'm on the second flooring heading downstairs, Ewie just randomly shows up out of no where and lands right infront of me. I was like O.O. I remember he was all shy asking me to be his Padawan, but that was really cool of him, choosing me.

I remember back in the day when I was in the R team, I used to love catching people "misbehaving". I loved disguising myself and going around and killing everyone then suddenly have them attacking me out of no where. One even brought up my mother's sexual decensy into question. Sure loved banning him.

Those aren't stories, those are screenshots.
While I understand that a picture says a 1000 words, why not actually write something that meant something to you.

How about findind the clan by accicent, then spending time in the server, getting to know us, applying for membership, being watched by the -R team and finally getting accepted and going through the process...etc.

Want a story?

How about that time your Master assigned an essay to be written and you had to present it in class next week infront of all the other P's. Remember doing the research? Those RP moments are what memories are made of, what seperated us from everyone else.

I like the pics, but this thread would mean more to anyone reading it if you told us your story.

Regards,
Menelaos

PS: but don't stop posting screenshot ;)

I had bought JKA because I liked Star Wars, and wanted to play a Star Wars game. JKA was the most recent one, so why not JKA( kotor may have been there aswell )?

I completed the single player and played in a few multiplayer games. Nothing to great. I especially liked Siege, so I played that a lot. I stumbled upon the JA+ Siege Server, and I was wondering why everyone had these dancing disco lights around them. So, I downloaded JA+. While installing JA+ I read something about custom maps.

What tops a Temple map, with a Jedi Council room? Nothing! So I downloaded GCX and couldn't really figure it out how to play on it, I think. So I scoured the server map, in search for servers with GCX on them.

I was lucky, the Jedi Order Clan had GCX on. No idea what the Jedi Order Clan was, and I didn't really care, as long as GCX was on. I join the server and start running around, in search for the Council Room. On my way to the lifts, I see Knight Jorka standing, AFK, in a lift( He was Jedi back then, I think).

So I killed the crap outta him. He told me that was laming. I was like: ''What's laming?''. He explained, and gave the site's adress. Then I applied. Amazing how Master Lei actually understood my application.

: Re: Stories from the past
: *<JO>*Ekul October 05, 2011, 06:33 AM
I remember the first time I played on JO's server. It was totally different than anywhere else I had played.

I was in a clan with Tomgren (Tommy at that time still, my name was Darth Luke or something haha) that we were trying to form. We didn't have a server or anything, so one day he suggested we play on JO's. We did and both of us loved it! So after a little while, we decided it would be best to drop our clan and see about joining JO.

Up until then I had barely played JK2 multiplayer. I played some with one of my friends from middle school, then stopped for a while. Then randomly wanted to again after a few months and I ran into Tommy. I joined his clan and then found JO. Totally random. I'm so glad that I did though!

I think Alpha helped me decide on my new name that was more "jedi" for my application. Then one morning EARLY before I left for school, Aoshi found me on MSN and admitted me! It was September 3rd, 2004 or 2005. I was so excited I was like shaking a little. haha

My beginnings are humble.

Miridius was playing this game before me and he joined LOTJ. He kept telling me I should get the game and play it, and I gave in and got the game. He introduced me to a bunch of members from LOTJ and I joined them briefly. For those who remember LOTJ used to play in JO’s server and were imo the best allies we ever had. My stay with them was very short as I waited for 3 weeks to be given a Master and the whole time I was spending time with JO members like Erue. He had joined JO and was being trained while I watched and tried to learn by watching. This is when I first met Master Veni (JK Veni at the time) and he ripped into Erue’s Master for letting me sit in on a training once…boy did I think that Veni guy was a tough SOB! He was also the one maintaining order and kicking lamers. I then met Axem and we began talking and getting to know each other. Soon there after I had quite LOTJ (which they completely understood and were cool with) and I applied for JO. From there, the rest is history…Aoshi, Shin, Shade, Krystal, Dard, Grim, Myst, etc…and that ladies and germs is how a Master Menelaos was born!!!

Everyone, go take a look at the History Forums...now that brings back memories.

Remember the Form Tests?

Man were we ever well organized as a group.

Lower ranks will have lower access, I do have a Guest account that used to be given to allies only, but if an old friend wants to see the forums PM me.

While scouring the Archives I landed on this topic about the Archives themselves. What the use of the Archives were and why even bother maintaining them.

This made me remember my JK trials where I was asked something similar: Why is it important to learn about the past?

I answered with a quote, I think. Or I might not have, but what I said derived from that quote. ''Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to fulfill it''. - Santayana

Keep these memories coming, lads!

I remember how I came across the server. For the previous 8 months or so (back in '03), I and a few mates had been playing around on 1.02 JK2. I was in a clan called XO (Xenotype Outcasts) under the name Alpha, which was an FFA clan with a respect hierachy loosely similar to JO's. I'm sure some of the older lads can remember how clueless I was back then; pretty unruly. I've managed to find this old skin (http://jediknight3.filefront.com/file/Alpha;13171) someone made me, on which I commented with the following. It's entitled 'Oi you':

hey that skin was dedicated to me , and all of those non skinners and shut their mouths if they try to diss coz they cant. i like the skin even if it doesnt have bot support, hmph...neway nice skin foolish :bow to me
joke : see you all on starwars

About 6 months after that was posted, I'd applied for JO... God have mercy on the -R team back then.

Eventually, the whole modding aspect of JK2 really interested me. 1.02 didn't support mods, and most of the servers had base maps (ffa_bespin was the most popular). I'd previously tried 1.04 a little, and enjoyed playing the Yoda skin and on different mod types. One day on 1.02, I'd downloaded Jedicouncilgc (#1) off a server and played it and absolutely loved it, so when I started playing 1.04 and found a jedicouncilgc2 server (Jedi Order Temple), I hastily joined! That's when it all begun.

I was using the name Alpha and getting to know some of the member base when I eventually decided to join. Stupidly enough, I hadn't bothered making an applications so I approached Aoshi, and asked him what I should do. He said I should have made an application, but I didn't know how to do it. Kenshin, who'd heard that I had interest in joining *<JO>*, told me that he'd write an application for me and siad that he had interest in being my Master. I was told that I needed to have a second name, so PhantXar helped me decide my surname; 'Jhen'. After I joined, Kenshin randomly became inactive and I'd already started to develeop a friendship with Shin Tits-up *Tetsu, so he took me under his wing.

It was a short while after I'd joined that the whole Bastilla fake-death saga occured. I can still remember when her 'husband' logged on, using a Desann skin and spread news about her 'death'. We held an IG funeral ceremony for her, in which I recited a few words from a Psalm I'd heard in church that day (that Condom *Can-Don recognised).

I have great memories in the Order..

sadly, I have just as many bad ones.

If you look at it.. I grew up in the Order. I started at 13 and in feb ill be 23.. ten years is alot of time to grow. I have made foolish decision and smart ones.
My greatest mistake was not listening to my fellow Jedi when i should have. I have made great friends and i have lost friends here...

anyway here's a few of my collections.

Those aren't stories, those are screenshots.
While I understand that a picture says a 1000 words, why not actually write something that meant something to you.

The screenshots were just the beginning!

I have loads of stories about loads of incidents and adventures, too many for one post. My fond memories of this place (and more importantly, it's people) stretch over 8 years now, so I'll start with a few from the beginning, and do it post by post over time;

Xar Rikoko - I know he wasn't everybody's cup of tea, (and if I remember rightly, he left on bad terms after kicking off on the Council) but I think he was the first guy in the clan to talk to me when I first started coming to the server. He was always fun to be around, and I thank him greatly for interacting with me on my first few visits. He'd shout 'RIIIIIIIINKKKKKKKKY!!' when I'd come in the server, he made me feel welcome by including me in things and I likely wouldn't have come back if I didn't remember how much fun he made things. I hope I took a bit of inspiration from that when I joined the clan, and I hope that I managed to make some guests feel as at home as he did to me.

Thanks you crazy Heineken-drinking lunatic, I hope you're doing well.

Joining the clan - I hadn't had the Internet for long, but I had JK2 since it came out. I'd read about playing online for ages and I just couldn't wait, it would be incredible to connect to thousands of people across the world - which is something we truly take for granted nowadays.

When I finally got the Internet (56k, the birth of RinkPing), one of the first things I did was play JK2, and it was fantastic. I played on a lot of FFA and CTF servers, but eventually you're bound to run into a server with rules (a surprising number of servers don't explain the 'laws of laming' to newbies). Eventually I discovered mods, downloaded a load of skins and maps, and like most people here - I came across the server.

12 years old, with plenty of time on my hands, I used to go under the name 'RinkyDink'. I liked what I saw on the server, there were plenty of clan members online and it was well organized. I asked how I could join and thankfully Can-Don Lyke gave me the .tk address to get to the website, which I wrote down.

It wasn't until a few days later that I checked it out. It's crazy to think that an 8 year relationship with this clan could have been nothing more than a single visit if I hadn't checked out that website to get the server details again. I didn't even know how to put colours in my name until I came to the JO server, that's how much of a noob I was.

I applied on the joclan.conforums.com forum and thinking back to it now, it was completely cringeworthy. This was before you were required to have a biography in your recruitment post. I dread to think what I would have wrote as a biography. Probably Something Typed In Capitals Like This.

I still remember seeing guys like Corel, Stargazer, Zuru Daik, Raphael De Leon and more getting accepted. Eventually it was my turn, I'd been running around with the Gungan skin on (I had Jar Jar on at some point, and was told straight away to take it off by PannTher, haha) and thought I'd make my character the first Gungan of JO. It was Master PannTher and Aoshi who inducted me into this clan, and it was Pann who suggested RinkXing DinX. You can tell I was inducted by Master PannTher by how Korean inspired it is. I used RinkXing for everything I did up until about 2 years ago, it's an awesome name and he was the top guy to do it.

The thing I remember most about being accepted was Pann asking me whether I knew what RP was, and I said yes. I thought he was talking about retail price, not role playing, in fact I didn't even know we were a role playing clan until 2004, haha.

But I learnt as I went along - about the game and the clan's etiquette. I'd see guys like Khyron Lank get in trouble for saying 'dude', and I'd learn more by just being observant. I generally stayed away from getting into trouble in the clan, and I don't think I got yelled at by any Councillors. Even when I got promoted, I tried to be pretty mellow and laid back when it came to punishments. That's not to say there wasn't a fair share of drama though, and looking back it was the best part.

Bastilla, her death, her husband, her revival and her banishment - It was crazy what went down with this.

As you all know, a Padawan needs a master, and I really needed one to show me the ropes. Erue had approached me numerous times, and he was going to be my master (I would test out his colours on my name it was that close), but eventually he chose Shogun Shimi instead. It makes me wonder what would have happened if Erue had been my master, would I have followed him to JEDI? Not likely, but you never know.

Eventually, Master Foxen's Padawan 'Bastilla Kron' was promoted Jedi Knight. She approached me one day with the idea of being her apprentice and I gladly accepted (in fact, I think I lagged out or my computer crashed when she first asked me - I don't know what was worse in 2003, my connection of my system). I was overjoyed at the idea that I finally had a master. I'd see the guys who joined the same time as me or even after me get a Master, and there was nothing more that I wanted at the time.

I felt the Master/Padawan relationship here was spot on, it was everything it was supposed to be. She was approachable and active, she treated me so nicely and I remember having loads of fun learning new skills and getting asked questions about the clan. She'd even put her 'son' on sometimes and she'd ask me to look after him on the server.

So after all that it was even more hurtful when she tragically 'died'. I really looked up to her and we got on well. Not knowing all the details, being fairly young and being new to the idea of online communities; I, like many others, was fooled into believing this rubbish. The idea that she came onto the server acting as her 'husband' (under the name Proteus Kron) during her in-game funeral was absolutely sickening. I still remember her 'husband' telling me that she always thought "I was the best Padawan ever!". Eventually she came clean and wanted to return to the clan, but was banned forever after having a meeting with the Council on the server. I was on the server when it happened, and would have listened to what she would have had to say, but she didn't have much time for me then.

Master Silvaer took me under his wing after I failed my first J trials. I have a ridiculous amount of respect for him. I didn't see him much, but when I did I learnt so much stuff about the game. It was deeply upsetting when he joined JoR/E to basically just duel with Wooklyn, but he left shortly after and everything was alright again. Again, I thank you Silvaer for your time and experience.

I have more thoughts, stories and opinions on past events to post, stuff like coming through the ranks with Shin. Alpha, Lei, Mystery, Mei-Oh, all my Padawans, the 2004 generation and so much stuff about the 'wars' and drama that went on. I have a pretty good memory when it comes to this stuff.

HapSlash, The Void and ArchAngel - This story is really nothing to do with the clan, but it ties into the game and a number of it's members quite a bit. For those unaware; HapSlash is a guy who would make the single most awesome models for JK2 and JA, an example of some of his work would be the Anakin and Obi-Wan Episode 3 models that I'm sure you've seen.

His work was simply amazing, I would go as far to say that his models (and more importantly, his texturing) were better than the game's developers. They were so professional and complete on release, how he was not snatched up a major development studio is far beyond me.

As a fan of his work, and an active member of the game's modding community at this point (2005 I believe), I joined his forum 'HapSlash's Void', to keep an eye on the progress of his work. As time went by I'd contribute more and more to the discussions and even take part in the graphics competitions that they had going on there. It was good fun and a nice place to be apart of.

There were a few JO related characters that ended up going on there. I believe Jorka and Kyjik were on there at some point, but the most controversial of course was probably ArchAngel, or Tiger-something (whatever name he ended up going under in the end, he had about 50 of them), if you don't remember - he's the guy who infiltrated the clan as a Chad Skel-Tohn imposter and was the driving force behind the original leak saga. He was constantly causing trouble and thinking back to it now, he was one hell of a drama queen. Much like the trouble he caused here, he also caused there - and ended up getting banned. In retrospect, I enjoyed the drama he'd cause, I remember that time he gained access to our forum's admin and deleted the boards. It was madness, but it was an important moment in history.

Back to The Void though; being apart of that community, I got to know a number of their members. The strangest thing is that I ended up going to the same univeristy, on the same course, in the same class as one of them without even knowing it, and was the first friend I made there. It wasn't until half-way through the first year did we realise that we were both former members of that great forum. A surreal moment for sure.

The forum definitely fell from grace around the time I started university, or a while before that I'd say. Sadly it looks like it will never start up again, as the heart of the community; HapSlash's brother - 'Infinity Blade', died a few months ago. IB was just as witty and talented as his brother, he would weight Hap's models to be used in the game. A real talent and a real tragedy, I'll miss him.

Dron Zell - This glorious man, what do you say about this fella? He was the absolute best, his legend will live on forever. When I get TOR, I'm instantly making an alternate character called Dron Zell, preferably with a massive dong shaped head, a biography plagiarised from someone else, a ship  called Beethoven's Symphony and he will recite the words of Vurk.

If you're not as familiar with Dron as I am (who I worship every evening in my shrine), he was probably the biggest brown-nosing, fake little turd that the clan has ever seen, and that's saying something when the clan has had the likes of Tyrael knocking about.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with listening to Beethoven, learning the Vurk language and being respectful - but this wonderful man managed to roll it all up in a massive ball of satirical masterpiece. I love you Dron.

There are many, many more stories about Dron, but these are definitely my most prominent.
: Re: Stories from the past
: *<JO>*Ekul October 14, 2011, 06:51 PM
Thank you for those memories Rink!! I wonder who Dron was in real life. Who would actually act like that. hahaha
: Re: Stories from the past
: *<JO>*Veniku Dar Adias October 14, 2011, 08:10 PM
People like dron in real life generally do not have many friends of serious relationships with people... well besides maybe his parents. No matter how much you lie and front to people eventually it'll be seen.

Down to the bottom line it takes alot of  eh.. 'different' people to make the world go round. Everytime i help a friend and family member or just make some one feel better about a crappy day.. just reminds me it takes those kind of people to make the world go around.

Anyway, theres a possible bright future for us in TOR.. and like war, some things never change.. lol including people.

Now that my JKA career is over I can finally look back on it with some perspective and see both the fun and the mistakes... It's funny to think where I started as contrasted to where I ended. A 'noob' staffer who was inducted into an anti-RP dueling clan that somehow inexplicably led me to a slightly above average single-saberist in an RP clan.

I don't honestly remember who suggested I apply, so I don't remember who it was you could blame for inflicting me on you. It was probably Zunin but I don't really remember...

I do remember being completely surprised and ecstatic that I was accepted. I know Dalvahn and Zahn had their opinions on the subject known. They were... not fans... And who could blame them? It wasn't like much time had passed since I was in JoA and failed out and I wasn't exactly a different person. I was at the age where you start to learn the world doesn't revolve around you but fight against such realizations because it contradicts everything you've ever believed.

I had some good and bad times in JO. Especially under Zunin's watch. Around the time he got busted rank on and slipped in activity things started really going crazy. An altercation with Xodus (in which I was right), altercations with Foxen (in which I was right), an altercation with Menelaos (in which I was wrong), an altercation with Borrow (which there was no right or wrong) meeting Myste and the constant back and forth with Achilles and Jorka made my first 6-months a real....... complicated time.

I also had my heart surgery while I was in JO so... that happened... That was a thing.

The most turbulent times were when Menelaos became my Master.  I mean, admittedly on the whole it was a good time for me with the exception of Shii-Cho and the eventual leaving the clan... twice... I learned more about the clan, more about the lore of JO and Star Wars as a whole. I actually enjoyed the homework assignments. Gave me a reason to procrastinate on other things... I still have all my study lesson's and the Master-Padawan chart somewhere in my e-mail.

Ironically, I remember the time researching the clan to be more satisfying than the time I spent in tournaments or duels... Huh...

Then Drake-tar came around, got into my head... I blame him for inflicting Lander on me, but the rest was my doing... I'd like to just gloss over those memories, forget they happened. Mistakes made.

I remember being equally ecstatic to be allowed back into JO though. In hindsight, you all were probably more generous than I deserved. I didn't forget that and I've never stopped appreciating the opportunity. But, I was young, didn't always like to be told to do as told...

Also, I had some fun in the forums of GE/GIA. I enjoyed my time insulting them on their own forum under and assumed name anonymously having my fun attacking people I was actually allowed to attack. Good times.

But, honestly, the worst time I had in JO was the two weeks or whatever I spent as a Knight... I don't even think I lasted two weeks, but that's the first measure of time that popped in my head. A lot of stress, I read more bad things about myself than anyone should have to, and within this time was the first time I'd ever been banned from JO's server... Though only fleetingly. As much as I wanted to be, wanted to train a Padawan, have a meaningful say in the clan, get to all that potential I kept hearing about, I don't think I was ready...

And then, it was all over. I left, again, for the last time, and here we are... Sort of nice to reflect all the way back. Bit humbling, too. Never sat well with me how my time in JKA and JO ended, but I can sort of see how it was only ever going to end one way. Badly.

I find it sad that such communities because so desolate in such a short amount of time, i believe it wasnt even 2 years ago we flourished with life and now its like a ghost town for people to try and rekindle old memories (realistically until TOR gives this clan another go), i was apart of DSi for a short time and that died out quickly and even now i still visit but no ones about other than a couple of the leaders, i was apart of the void aswell as it goes, that place was so lively and i loved viewing everything i saw in amazement i really hope something like this happens soon and JO becomes as great as it ever was.

God knows how both JEDIS are still alive and RPing for that matter with the severe lack of life on JKA and interest in star wars these days :|

Vargas, this isn't really all that depressing to me, it's a celebration of the past and a nice thing to reflect on. To me, JO's simply been in down time before the big move - a sleeping giant with all the potential in the world to be a thriving community once again.

Grim, it was nice reading your thoughts and experiences, admittedly I wasn't around for that much after mid-2005ish, so it's always great to hear what was going on then.

Fast forwarding, I eventually became a Councillor and assumed the leadership role in the clan, but I could not channel my inner Menelaos and the clan fell and I was left looking for something to belong to.

This got me a bit. I think we all know why this clan is still here after all this time, but sometimes I think we can take him for granted;

Menelaos - There is no one who could replace this man's role in this clan. There would have been nothing left of this place if time after time he didn't prove to be a major driving force in the progress and leadership of this family.

I remember when it all kicked off with JoR/E (I'll go into this another time). PannTher and Shin were both away on holiday, and all the other Councillors had left. Without Menelaos, it would have all ended there, without a doubt in my mind.

He quickly took action after a massive exodus. I believe he promoted Aoshi, Foxen and myself to the Council there and then. I remember Pann coming back a while later, and him being a bit annoyed about promoting without his opinion and vote, but I'll defend it until the end - Menelaos had just made the most important decision in the entire history of JO in my opinion, it kept us going and sparked a massive passion. I remember reading what Humungus and a number of other JoR/E members had written about the idea that Aoshi, Foxen and I were promoted, they laughed. We'd be 'dead within a month' according to Zetamancer. How wrong they were.

His actions inspired a whole new generation of members. I remember not knowing about being promoted until I logged onto MSN, being bombarded with messages congratulating me. It was a really touching moment, and I genuinely appreciate the chance that you gave me to show I could help make this something special. You'd always listen to what I had to say, and you'd never be afraid to give my ideas a go, and for that I thank you my friend.

So many times people would target Menelaos, and they clearly did it because he is such an influential figure. People often thought Mene was running this clan solo, dictating everything and on a crazy power trip - but as a guy who's had access to the Council Chambers for 7 and a half years now, I can't say I remember a time he didn't consult us about decisions. Everything he did was in the best interests of the clan as a whole, and selfish reasoning never once came into it.

He was probably the best Master a Padawan could have had, and this is coming from a guy who didn't even get trained by him.

You're awesome.

Hats off to you Master Menelaos!

And also to you Master Rink, for taking the time to write this, and other stuff, down. Even if I had been around as long as you have, I don't think I could ever find the words, whereas it comes to you as a second nature.

Keep the stories coming!

Definitely agree with all that Rink. Mene has definitely been the defining figure of JO. I joined right around the stuff with JoE/R, so Menelaos was really the figurehead of JO for me. For a while he seemed almost mythical (now I know better ;)). Without him, none of us would be on this forum right now, I can tell you that with 100% certainty. The amount of his time and energy that man has put into JO is unmatched.

I think we should make a mene appreciation thread of all the good times and beatings he gave us out of his love for this family ;)
