Electronic/House Music
« on: May 14, 2010, 11:36 AM »
Recently I've been really wanting to start making electronic/house type music (like Daft Punk, Justice, or Deadmau5). My cousin is the dj for the group Prefuse 73 and plays solo as Leb Laze, so I asked him about what I needed to get started.

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience making music like this and could give me any insight or anything. I currently have a keyboard and I know how to use programs like Logic or Protools (I was looking into what to get and I might try to get Cubase because it looks badass), but thats about it. I don't know how to make beats really and I don't know what kind of machines and boxes and stuff I would need to hook everything up.

And if you don't make music, does anyone here at least listen to house music?

haha I thought you liked this kind of stuff, Master. :) I've liked electronic music for a long time, but lately I've really been wanting to make my own. I've really been getting excited about it lately, especially since I got home and have access to a keyboard again.

Dude!! YOU SOOOOOOO have to teach me along the way as you are learning.
I would LOVE to learn to mix my own stuff.

Fatchilles did some, and Drake or one of his alter egos did also (unless that was a lie too...who knows with that guy).

So as you learn, teach me!!!

For now, I can meet you online ANYTIME you want and send you some of the 600+ mp3 files I have =)

Menelaos

What you should start doing, just to get used to the basic way the programs work (although they're a ton more complex) is start playing around with garage band or something. That will get you visually thinking about the tracks and loops that you use to make songs.

Its going to be pretty expensive too, I think. A program like logic or cubase can be as much as $500 (or $2-300 for students). I also need to either get some cords and adapters or an entirely new keyboard so I can hook it up to my computer. Then I need to get other stuff on my computer like synthesizers and drum machines and stuff for beats, making loops, etc.

That greediness is what got you like that in the first place, it's just a vicious cycle.

Good, because there is a food shortage in London already...it would have been a disaster if you visited.

And I don't call you fat, you are fat. But like Alpha said, we are here for you and we know one day, you will be able to use a regular toothpick instead of a stale French stick to pick between your teeth.
