There were plenty of differences but I can make of only two that you could mean.

They didn't use the old five-tenet Jedi Code, but instead had a new one. The new code doesn't for example directly forbid emotions.

Another thing different code-wise was that in New Jedi Order marriages and love affairs were allowed.

Emotions werent forbidden, most of the children of our heroes from the films had used force grip at one point or another in the books to save someone or kill an opponent

The Jedi could use either the Light side or Dark side powers. Important were not the actions, but the intentions.
