A man in a cloak entered the room, glanced around to survey how combat might be handled, and then wandered among the chairs.  It was a very large atrium with water cascading around which served as both calming atmosphere and white noise generator.  A relatively inconspicuous place for clandestine meetings.

The man's face couldn't be seen at all in the mixture of heavy shadows and intermittent light cast off the glow rods and reflected around the room by the moving water.  He moved as if gliding on the air, not making a sound.  The only signs that he was actually walking were the evenly spaced pressure marks in the shape of a boot.  They were deep for someone his size.  The man sat in a comfortable chair and became a silohette against the light reflecting off the waterfalls behind him.  His eyes refocused on the darkness, wide open, waiting.

He heard the other before his eyes saw anything.  Heavy sets of boots clattered on the stairs.  Some were obviously armored, one or two were not.  His count placed the group at no more than 8.  Two were missing, either not coming along for this excursion or hidden somewhere.  The cloaked one mused over this in his mind, They can be found later.

They fanned out into the room, trying harder to be quiet now yet still failing against his superb hearing.  He could see them now though they were black on black with the wall.  His eyes glowed a very soft light blue as he watched them.  One was not hiding, instead approaching directly.  That one called out, "Before we start, I want to see what I was promised."

The cloaked man watched, vaguely interested in the question, attention mostly on where every person's hands were and how close to their arms they happened to be.  The lighter ones he had watched get off a landing ship earlier seemed to be missing... probably hidden as he suspected earlier.  The heavy set ones... there was an extra one, possibly recruited from the local mercenaries.  Yes, the rest smelled different from the one, probably accustomed to different foods and such.  That one had definitely been on Coruscant for a long time, if not born here.  Not much hidden about them, all were heavily armed.  A little too heavily armed for just a meet and greet between dealers.

"I'm not sure exactly what you're here to see.  Though I am certain whatever it is you need is obtainable."

The leader of the group barked a laugh, "What I need?  Hah... you don't have that.  You have what I want though."

"Is that so?" The hood dropped back to reveal a silver streak of hair.

"Oh... oh yes that is quite nice.  I've heard so many stories about you, probably all there are to hear.  You see what I want isn't an illegal deal... not like you thought."

Kaeawc looked about, starting to get apprehensive.  Is he bluffing or am I actually in deep here?

"Its you."

Oh bother.  Why do I always get the vendettas.  Wonder what it is this time.  Suppose I should take him seriously though now.

"I don't think you're really here for me.  Not specifically anyway.  You're on the right track though, and I congratulate you on luring me this far."  Kaeawc stood up to his full height and took one step forward.  Instantly every weapon in the room discharged on him.

Jyn Repl was born on Yavin 4.  He had a loving mother and father, he had an excellent credit report with no outstanding debts, and he had come to Coruscant to see the wonders of the Galactic Senate in action.  He was an upstanding good samaritan, a great contributor to society.

All of this, however, was fake.

For starters, the Republic citizen identifier, or RCI, for Jyn Repl had been tampered with.  Such tampering had changed the bioinformatics, birth date, holo ID, and one other big red flag.  Jyn Repl had died decades ago as barely a young adult, and suddenly he was listed as alive and employed at the age of 29.

The man standing before Jedi Master Kaeawc Farore had no name.  His entire history was completely scrambled, even the change log was mysteriously corrupted.  How that was accomplished Kaeawc could only guess at, for he really knew very little about this man except for his very clear intention to put many over powered rifle charges through Kaeawc's body.

Kaeawc only began to reach for his light saber as the rifle shots tore him apart.  His hood flew back and the man who wanted everyone to know himself as Jyn saw Kaeawc's face show a look of genuine surprise right before it too was turned into smoldering ruin.

The body of the Jedi Master hit the ground very heavily.  The rifle shots ceased, every one of them had hit the target.  Jyn stepped forward to confirm the kill.

"I don't get it."

Everyone in the room was surprised.  The voice speaking now was exactly the same as the man's who had just been blown apart.  Jyn felt a cold cylinder quietly touch the right side of his neck.

"I don't get how you erased your identity.  Its like you never had one."

"But... we just... destroyed you.  You... you're like the stories say... you're a ghost.  You aren't human at all!"

Kaeawc held Jyn firmly by the shoulder while keeping his saber pressed against his neck.  He leaned over his shoulder, grinning, "No I'm not quite human as you say.  Though I never was human to begin with, I am a Hyrian.  You have probably never even heard of my kind nor likely to see another."

Jyn looked at the grinning face with bloodshot eyes.  "We pin pointed all your vital spots... you're a corpse on the ground!  Look!"  Jyn snapped his head so hard that Kaeawc thought he might break free, but he simply stared at the charred remains in front of them.  When he was assured of his grip on the man again, Kaeawc continued.

"You seem to have trouble grasping reality.  Let me fill you in a bit."  He kicked over the cloak.  A metal body in humanoid form with bits of cloth fused to its body remained.  "That was never me.  I was sitting behind you the whole time.  It had a few pre-programmed responses to say, I figured you wouldn't be much of a talker."

The heavy set man in the far back leveled his rifle up against the face plate of another that had re-adjusted his aim for Kaeawc's head.  "What... what are you doing you fool?  We have him we just need to--"

The blow delivered from the butt of the rifle cut him off as he crumpled to the ground.

The top of the armor opened and a shadow flew out of it.  Kaeawc sensed some form of danger and threw himself and Jyn behind a clear energy screen.  Before they were completely behind it the abandoned suit could be heard maxing out its power generators.  Jyn tried to move further away behind a chair, not realizing he was already protected, so Kaeawc grabbed his ankle and yanked him back.  Jyn screamed as he stared into the explosion.

Kaeawc kept his eyes shut until the white flash had passed.  He kept his eyes accostumed to the dark and glanced around the room for whomever had just tried to kill them all, but he didn't see them.  Using the Force to extend his senses upward, he found the two light weight snipers still dieing.

Whoever that was is probably professional assassin.  They've been dead since Jyn walked in here.  He never had the cover he anticipated.

Jyn was recovering now, looking around the room.  Every inch was heavily scorched except for the section that was protected by Kaeawc's energy shield.  He looked where the chair was that he thought would protect him... and then he looked at the smashed and melted window that it had probably hurtled through.

"How much did you pay the new guy?"

Jyn looked up, not aware Kaeawc was still among the living.  His mercenary guards certainly weren't.  He clenched his teeth.  Hard.

I need to hurry and catch that person that got away.  He might do more damage elsewhere.

"Look Jyn, do you want me to catch that person?  Whoever that was got away with whatever money you gave, and he's certainly more dangerous than you,"  Kaeawc reached down and picked Jyn up off the floor.  He offered no resistance.

Something... is wrong.

Kaeawc looked at the man's eyes that were covered in shadow.  He concentrated for a second and then released him.  The dead body crumpled to the floor.

Hehe... Jyn, you're better than I gave you credit for.  Its going to be a long night.

Kaeawc put in a request for a morgue team to come pick up the remains and perform autopsies.  After looking around the room for a final sweep, he picked up the shield and quietly left.

Kaeawc walked out of the hotel where the meeting took place.  He projected his thoughts ahead of him to look for traps.  There were none.

Caught unprepared?  Or arrogant?

He continued walking until he came to a terminal.  He stood there for a while eyeing the screen.  A very quick retina scan confirmed his identity, and Kaeawc then made a link with the security feeds in the area.  He queried the database for what he knew about the hostile.  The scan narrowed it down to three unknown figures racing through the crowds below.  Based on their current trajectories, they were headed away from nearly the same spot.  Kaeawc looked up the public database for the coordinates of the hotel he was at.  They matched up with two of the unknowns.

Definitely not unprepared... I'm not the only one who has been using droids tonight.

All security feeds in the are were fixed on the dark blur pushing past the crowds in the slums below.  Kaeawc swept back his cloak and took off after the confirmed hostile.  He saw one of the V-trams coming down the tower and leaped for onto its roof.  The winds buffeted him as he descended into the smog where he had spent his first year on Coruscant on the streets.  A boy urchin returning as a Jedi Master.

The wind buffeted the man running, never ceasing in his effort to get away.  It was just like that time...

I remember...

A man in a cape carrying a satchel knocked into a boy who was eating a piece of fruit.  The boy cried out and the man turned to draw a vibroblade, but as he targeted the spot where he had expected the boy to be he suddenly realized that the boy was not there.  Nor was he to the left or right, not up or behind.  He was gone.  Ghost of the Slums, that is the name Kaeawc earned as a boy urchin.  These low level, polluted back alleys were not only his environment.  They also became a semblance of home.

The noise of the planet-city blanketed the sound his cape made when it ruffled, softly flapping due to the cross ventilation systems.  He squatted at his perch, waiting for a moment he knew would come.

The rain fell and pattered on everything, soaking every surface and drowning all color.  All the far away lights became blurry, distorted.  Yet the man ran on, steadily and with purpose.  He quickly and often turned, but it was all according to a plan.  Not a single step could be off beat if he wanted to get away alive.  Surely this plan would work.

Of all the years Master Kaeawc had been the sentinel of the city, he had yet to allow such criminals to go without punishment.  He made it his mission to enforce the laws and aide the innocent.  As he effortlessly leaped from building to building, he looked down below in faint curiosity.

The path was about to turn again, though no marker but the man's memory was his guide.  He jerked into a doorway, crashing into the garbage containers on the other side.  He cursed, and then put his shoulder into the door.  Large crates spilled over and clanged on the ground.  Wincing at the noise that anyone would be bound to hear, especially if they were looking for commotion, his mind raced.  Would it be safe to find the escape vehicle here, or should he keep running?

The door behind him shut.  Without looking for cause he became a beast of motion once again, jolting forward as quickly as he could.  He sprinted in between parked hovercraft and speeders, countless colors of soft pastel or striking brilliance.  The chrome-like finishes glaring at him as he shoved them out of his way, angry to have been smudged after being so recently cleaned.  Standing in the middle of the lot, he glanced this way, and then behind.  He saw no movement even as his eyes raced to glimpse something, anything.  He reached into his dull yellow trousers and pulled out a vibroblade... though for its size a more descriptive name would be a vibroknife.  He had a finger on the power switch, muscles tensed all over his body.  Sweat poured down in nervous rivers, and his free left hand began to shake slightly.

The click of a heel.  Whirling around to face his opponent, the man started as he realized there was no quick surprise.  No definitive, staccato attacks that left behind confusion and severed limbs.  Just one Jedi... calmly standing at ease.  Knowing that for him there was no chance of grasping success from his employer unless he made it out without getting caught, he made his attack: a wide feint with his arm tensed so tightly it showed his preparation for a back hand swipe.

Kaeawc raised his arms and connected his right elbow to the man's right arm.  He pivoted on one heel.  A loud grinding noise could be heard as his boot scraped the asphalt.  With a few fingers he guided the man's arm to wind his muscles even tighter as the strong swipe cut through where he had been standing.  Click... his heel halted, and Kaeawc instantly rotated the arm that now belonged to him.  Every cord responded as if on fire; the man could not budge without tearing the muscles in his arm.

While he still had momentum he looked at the face of the Jedi.  He saw a calmness that was almost... sad?  Taking a forward roll to the pavement, he got up.  His arm was sore... burning.  What did that bastard Jedi do?  His lip was cut from taking the face plant and his face was lightly bruised.  He snarled and came again.

Kaeawc moved to cut the distance between the two and stopped the mans arm while it was still extended all the way back.  He pivoted around behind the man and twisted the arm he grasped to the point of tearing.  The elbow was bent back above the man's head at an odd angle, and no amount of strength could overcome the light grip that held him.  Kaeawc gently pushed down on the wrist he held along an imaginary line to the man's center.  He kneeled, or rather his legs buckled against the forces his own body was exerting on itself.  Through all of this the man defiantly stared into Kaeawc's eyes.  No peace.  No surrender.
