The Covenant - RP story idea
« on: June 21, 2012, 03:46 PM »
Ok before I say what this is about let me first start with this :

I read the thread about the Nexan thing , and I think its terrible and this is nothing like that so please consider it before you vote,
Also I noticed that the Nexan situation caused some problems (I think on a personal level too as I inferred from the replies some were feeling betrayed I might be wrong) that is why everything will be public and a story thread will be made if we go through with it.

Ok with that out of the way let me explain this thing , I am thinking about playing a Dark Jedi on one of my chars (only one)
but not a Sith , more of a shadow in the order.
For example there will be no red sabers (maybe during secret meetings as ceremonial things) , no attacking and no leaving / disturbing events.

The character will be more like chancellor Palpatine during the Clone Wars era.
His goal would be to manipulate the Jedi order from within . More of an opportunist , this guy wants to take advantage of the scars left by the war in the order and the republic seeking to control the order.

He would do so by corrupting his fellow hopefuls , and hoping to eventually get them on his side serving his needs and make his way up the order.

but at no time will it be made public (IC) , preferring to work from the shadows. The story would focus on the IC relations between him and his peers (getting to know them , picking out the ones who are weak to the dark side's temptation and turning them ) .

I am not planing on a pre-written story acted in game , More of a let it unfold in game and write what happened on the holonet
for anyone interested to keep track.

The ending should be he gets discovered and is defeated but how or when that happens is unknown and undetermined.
ofcourse anyone who is approached or discovers this person's plans is free to report/ignore/try to stop/etc. him .

everyone participating in this story would be (as always) free to take the path he want for example some one might fall and then find redemption or join this covenant and try to overthrow its master or get on his good favor for power .. whatever really

The actions in this story would mostly be IC conversations.

so lets discuss this thing and let me know what you think ! (would only go through with it if you agree)

BtW ! :
1)  if you opt option two that means you won't likely rp any part of this story (even the good side) but IC this character might still consider you ( as he does not know the results of this poll ! ) but it will be clear you won't be part of the story and will find you incorruptible and never approach you.

2) If  we go through this I would probably use Chee'Byt (The Progenitor) as this character ingame

My opinion is I will need to think more before voting.

But part of my view is as long as this is ONLY A RP THING and causes NO HARM to the order...it MIGHT be ok.

Don't play with the Dark Side. The Dark Side itself will come looking for you, one day.

On a second thought, we might one day start a RP session "find the traitor", lasting, for example, a month or two. You don't know if there is one, and who is it, the traitor is assigned by... let's say one person from the Council, and no one should know who it is.

I don't like the idea much anyway. It doesn't fit well with a Code.

Interesting idea, but... In the past the Order has had it's share of Dark Jedi, the real deals. Many members, even Masters, have betrayed the Order and left in bad terms. Now to play or act something similar would in my eyes seem just not right but perhaps insulting to some of the older members who've lived through those events. We shouldn't purposely tear the wounds open.

I must agree with the some of the comments left below.

First of all Knight Elod, your idea sounds interesting. That would be a cool addition to rp.

Hopeful Lytali, about your idea, however... I am not sure.
It might indeed hurt some feelings in the order.
But if kept within reasonable limits... it might work.
But once again, I might be wrong.

This will require some discussion.

Without conflict RP will stagnate, it will become dull and be the same repeated events over and over. You need villians in a story, and ones played out by actors (people you talk with outside the play/RP) are better because it allows you to plan events around it. The only other option would be to set up a sister guild on the empire side as an enemy to the Order in which some of us roll chars in that to start it up and control it accordingly.

You can't expect IC all Jedi to be 100% perfect and follow the code to the letter on every subject, some very kind Jedi reached high ranks and had very little regard for the rules, Kyle Katarn, Qui-Gon Jinn, Anakin Skywalker etc... that being said the rules the govern the guild OOC, be nice to each other help out etc.... aren't compromised by someone playing a grey/dark Jedi, if you can't seperate RP from real feelings you need to see a therapist.

First of all, thank you for making a ''Hell No'' option.

Since the beginning of the Order, we have roleplayed. Generally the hoster of the event would come up with a certain dilemma. This problem would then be solved by the Jedi that were present.

For example, a certain Jedi was taken hostage by a bunch of scum. Our mission was to retrieve the Jedi. But because killing the same NPCs all the time would get a bit boring, sometimes, members of our Order would RP to be for example a Dark Jedi. This was the only situation in where he/she could use a red saber and dark force powers.

We've never had a member that would fulfill this role all the time. We're a Jedi Order for a reason, and there is no place for members that, when we're RPing, secretly keeps bonds with some Dark Jedi group.

If there's going to be a long term RP event like this at all, it would end up with you turning to the Light Side, and we murdering the crap out of that Dark Jedi enclave/the Dark Jedi's escaping. To put it bluntly, that is

Good times, master Foxen Mert (while RP-ing as a Dark Master) hunted by a dozen of youngsters. Haven't heard someone screaming bad language that bad for a long time.

ontopic: keep in mind that this is a light-side orientated Order, make sure you stick to her code, it's there for a reason ;) Has always been like that, will always stay that way.

Can someone give Etee his own rank already? Something like "Master of Cakes" or "Baker"

If there's going to be a long term RP event like this at all, it would end up with you turning to the Light Side, and we murdering the crap out of that Dark Jedi enclave/the Dark Jedi's escaping. To put it bluntly, that is

I understand where your coming from, but not all that glitters is gold, EVERY organisation in the galaxy has some dirt on it, "The Jedi Order" as in the real one not the guild we have, according to Bioware, had sith inflitrate their ranks and even had full families of sith infiltrators and of course fallen and redeemed apprentices etc...

But I understand the Guild's designation as a "Light Side" Jedi Guild, but what classes someone as light sided has been a debate amongst Star Wars lore junkies (like myself) for years. Qui-gon was one of the kindest and most pure Jedi to ever live, and yet his belief in the "Living Force" far out weighed his believe in the Jedi Code, which is why he so often broke it "For the Greater good." Now this is something I personally consider to be 100% light sided, rules can get in the way of fighting your good fight but others would say ANY Jedi that isn't evil but doesn't follow the code is a "Grey" Jedi. My distinction of "Grey" Jedi is one who uses dark and light side powers, be it for evil or good.

The big reason I stand behind Jedi Code != Light Side, is because the Jedi are not the only light sided organisation in the galaxy, and because of their unrelenting commitment to their Code, one might say they are "Attached" to their code and fail to see its short comings because of it. There have been many cases where if the Jedi had simply bent their rules for certain Jedi, they would have never fallen to the dark side, and it was infact the restrictions and lack of compromise that drove some Jedi to the Dark Side in the first place. One might say this is an issue, but for the most part the code serves its purpose. Really you can't say what defines someone as a Light/Grey Jedi based simply on how well they follow the code, more base on the powers they have and what they choose to do with said powers. That is my opinion I would love to hear what others think on the matter.
